Don't guess what healthy foods students enjoy eating. Measure and evaluate instead using the Better Taste Less Waste tracking tool.
During the unprecedented Covid 19 pandemic that has temporarily
shut down food sharing in school districts across America, K-12 Food Rescue remains
committed to food waste reduction, environmental citizenship, and the increased
consumption of healthy food is schools across America.
In order to keep students engaged in the
nationwide #FoodisNotTrash movement, K-12 Food Rescue has developed a tool to
capture data from school lunches that can be leveraged to reduce food waste and
assist nutrition service staffs in menu preparation.
By learning more about the consumption rate of
the lunch or breakfast menu items being served each day, nutrition service departments can tailor menus
that include the most popular healthy food items, and try new choices to replace
the items that are being consumed the least.
The Better Taste Less Waste Log Tool keeps students engaged in the food waste
issue during the pandemic, but also provides them more ownership and investment
in their lunch program, which could improve attitudes that effect consumption
rates of healthy food items, leading to a healthier mind and body for every student.
